Mater Dei Academy was founded in 2020 with an initial enrolment of 12 students at premises in Pope's Quay in Cork. Since then the school has grown to over 50 students. In 2024, the Academy moved to a new premises at Eason's Hill in Cork. Since its foundation, the school has operated independently of state funding and relies entirely upon donations from parents and benefactors for its operation.
